Innovation can be defined in many ways. It can be incremental. It can be transformative. It can range from a groundbreaking product invention to an improvement in solutions or processes. It requires thinking outside the box. And it can happen anywhere. Even inside large corporations.
To highlight this, we wanted to showcase an event going on at EMC, based out of Hopkinton, Massachusetts, which is helping to promote not only innovation, but woman-powered innovation as well. EMC is a global leader in enabling businesses and service providers to transform their operations and deliver information technology as a service (ITaaS). Fundamental to this transformation is cloud computing.
Through innovative products and services, EMC accelerates the journey to cloud computing, helping IT departments to store, manage, protect and analyze their most valuable asset – information – in a more agile, trusted and cost-efficient way.
EMC’s first-inaugural Innovation Market premieres on November 1, 2012 at EMC’s corporate headquarters. The goal of the program is to raise the volume on Innovation and Creativity within EMC by showcasing the many and varied ways EMC business units and organizations are “thinking outside-of-the box.” You can check out the stories of two EMC innovators to learn about their secrets for success.
Innovators from venture capital, incubator, and accelerator communities, such as MassChallenge, as well as other entrepreneurs in the greater-Boston area, will showcase their great ideas and share how they put them into practice.
Participating in the EMC Innovation Market are several greater-Boston woman-led startups:
Tripchi, co-founded by Chandra Jacobs, is a mobile app for business travelers, helping them find actionable things to do during their down-time while on business travel, as well as provide a private networking and information sharing community revolving around their business travel.
Playrific, founded by Beth Marcus (who also spoke at the recent Women 2.0 Founder Friday Boston Launch in Cambridge) — Playrific provides pre- and elementary-school aged children with constantly refreshed, age-appropriate, educational, videos, games and books that reflect their likes and interests.
Photo Fabulous You, founded by Nicole Connolly and Kim Long, combine innovative skills with your own attributes to capture your best image in a photo and boost your ability to succeed. Other companies also participating in the EMC Innovation Market include: Vsnap, AltruHelp, 42stats, Native Brain, Neumitra, Intrepid Pursuits, Hard Data Factory, ViralGains, Infomous, Language Connections, Burns and Levinson LLP, Go Pro Workouts and Canopy.
This program is being led by the Office of the CTO and the EMC Innovation Network, with the support of EMC Event Marketing and volunteers from a number of EMC organizations. The EMC Innovation Market is currently an internal event, invitation-only to the public, and is being launched this year in conjunction with EMC’s 6th Annual Innovation Conference, taking place at EMC’s Center of Excellence (COE) in Israel, with a secondary stage in Franklin, Massachusetts, USA.
