We woke up to a hearty breakfast at the Wild Horse Inn and discussed our grand plans to for hiking Grand Lake later in the day. We got in the previous afternoon to Fraser, CO, driving in from Denver, and managed to still fit a lot in to the day and the evening. Check out my blog about Devil’s Thumb Ranch and our evening ramblings here….
For the second time this year, we planned our family Colorado indulgence trip, this time to the Wild Horse Inn in Fraser, CO. What this basically means is enjoying lots of food and some aspect of Colorado – either the outdoors or elements of the culture (music,etc.). Back in April it was Broadmoor Jazz Festival. This Summer’s theme is all about exploring the glorious outdoors, with a healthy dost of food orgy that only the Jacobs know how to do….
Some high school friends and I embarked on a Memorial Day Channel Islands Boating Adventure for 4 days, sailing from the Channel Islands Harbor to the Channel Islands, about 20 miles off the coast of Los Angeles/Ventura County. The chief boat officers of Catamaran Escape for our Channel Islands boating adventure included: Captain: Chan McKearn – boat owner and father of my long-time friend Jay First-Mate and Master Chef: Jay McKearn – son of Chan and friend of mine from high school Skipper and Drink-Master: Tyler Endicott – friend of both Jay and me Chief Morale Officer: CJ (me) (this title basically means I have no idea what I’m doing and I’m around chiefly for everyone else’s entertainment). Arguably, the dog contributed more than I did. Chief of Getting in Everyone’s Way: Seamus the dog, Jay’s pit-bull….

We are all avid music lovers, and while smooth jazz isn’t exactly my favorite in the jazz sub-genre (I prefer straight up swing like Ellington, Bop like Parker, Blues, and Funk), it’s still a great weekend chalk filled with music-oriented events, like-minded people, and the occasional surprise of an amazing performance….
Alex and I decided to take a weekend road-trip out of town, considering we had a 3 day weekend (MLK Monday, thank you government!) – and go snow-shoeing in Estes Park for the very first time. The plan was to drive from Denver to Estes Park, CO Sunday morning, show-shoe in the afternoon, spend the night, possibly snow-shoe again Monday morning, and make it back to Denver again by early afternoon. A quick there-and-back trip with an overnight….
